At a young age, I was introduced to the world of shooting when my dad would take my brother and I hunting, that’s when my dad made sure we knew the fundamentals of firearm safety. During high school I enlisted in the US Army and was deployed to Korea. After serving my time, I came home (Sandy, OR) and worked transporting US currency via armored car services until I got my dream job. In 1995, I was sworn in with the Portland Police Bureau, in my 25 years with with PPB, I worked as a Patrol Officer, Traffic Investigator, Crash Instructor for the State of Oregon as well as a Defensive Tactics Instructor.  While working as a police officer, I attended many leaderships and instructor development course which only strengthened my skills as an instructor. While working as a police officer, I received my certification as an NRA instructor in several disciplines and was approved by the Department of Public Safety and Standards (DPSST) to certify law enforcement retirees for their LEOSA cards to carry concealed under HR218.

I have always enjoyed teaching and found myself instructing martial arts classes, pepper spray and firearm classes.  Now that I am retired with PPB, I have more time to teach classes and help run our family business. As an Instructor, I feel I have one job and that is to make the student feel comfortable about what they are learning, so that they can feel confident using the tools that were taught.
